Shortly after the release of “Star Wars: A New Hope”, 1981 saw it's next blockbuster in “Clash of the Titans”, the story of the Greek mythological hero named Perseus (Harry Hamlin). The effects wowed audiences of that time and, while they feel old now, they do not distract from the film today. The real trouble is the amount of story information they try to pack into this film. Interesting characters and subplots are bountiful, but they're not given enough screen time for the audience to be fully invested.
Thirty years later, the 2010 “Clash of the Titans” definitely fulfills the “action” box, with cutting edge special effects and even a pretty good cast (Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson, Mads Mikkelsen) to join our hero on his quest for the head of Medusa. Where the film falls short is in the story department. While the original film tried to pack in too much story, the remake does not give us enough, and even neglects to give us a reason to pull for Perseus. It's a fine popcorn movie, but does not ultimately fulfill it's destiny. -Buzz Winner: Clash of the Titans (1981) Listen to the full Podcast!
