1990's “Total Recall” is one of that decade's films that, although packaged with a major star (Arnold Schwarzenegger), is more about the wonder and playfulness of Sci-Fi (based on a Philip K. Dick short story) and, more importantly, held possibilities of where the genre could go, effects and makeup wise. Sure the Science is bad (creating an atmosphere in only minutes?) and acting questionable, but at the end of the day, it's an enjoyable, though bloody film, that doesn't take itself too seriously.
Speaking of taking itself too seriously, 2010's “Total Recall” does just that. In a film where somehow we've ruined the planet down to two countries and bore a hole through the core of the Earth that can get you to either, you'd think someone would have a sense of humor about things or retain the ability to market products to the masses (otherwise why are all these people still working?). Despite some solid performances from the cast and great CGI effects, this remake leaves you wanting to erase the memory of it. -Buzz Winner: Total Recall (1990) Listen to the full Podcast!
